Phase crystals are translucent crystals manufactured to exacting standards by a coalition of Khalai and Nerazim craftsmen. These crystals were the result of the first attempts by the protoss to create an unlimited power source. Instead of discarding their "failures", the protoss, a dwindling race that can’t afford wasting resources, have found use for these phase crystals as focusing mediums for some of their weapons. This includes void rays, where they focus the energy of the ship's prismatic core into its prismatic beam, as they are capable of enduring the intense energy streams that surge from the ship's core.
