For unclear reasons, her body turned into a stone, called Sessho-seki, "killing stone" Her spirit, however, left her body and from then on haunted the stone and was called Hoji. It is unclear whether the killing property of the stone could be attributed to the action of Hoji (who lingered around it), or whether it was an unrelated attribute of the stone itself.
