Threat per second (TPS) is a measure of the threat generated by a person over one second. Dealing damage, healing, and many tanking abilities serve to increase threat generation. Because Damage dealers need to keep their threat below that of the tank's, the DPS of the group is limited (capped) by the TPS of the tank. In many situations, the only viable way for the group to increase DPS is for the tank to increase TPS. Many threat meters, such as the Omen addon, measure threat in terms of TPS.
