During the Fourth Age, the eldest of the Elders of Avarrocka saw a vision of the powers of the shield, and requested that Arrav seek this shield to protect Avarrocka from Zemouregal and his army of undead. When Avarrocka was eventually attacked by the Mahjarrat, Arrav was forced to return to the Imcando to seek the shield. Using the Sacred Forge, the Imcando sages learned of Avarrocka's second destruction and the arrival of the darkness from the north. They did not wish for the annihilation of their own race, and therefore agreed to give the shield to Arrav.
