The Mess was a popular large one-story restaurant for soldiers in the Military District of the Second City located just next to Hondo no Yari. It was created by a coalition of several samurai of four Great Clans. Unicorn and Mantis provided the spices and exotic food, the Crane provide more traditional meals and the Scorpion supplied the chefs. Crab bushi were banned, since they nearly destroyed the establishment during a massive brawl. The building was expanded to include a barracks that housed a unit comprised of volunteers from the four sponsoring clans, the White Hawks.
