SP Authentic refers to a series of baseball card sets produced by Upper Deck from 1993 to 2009. In 1993, Upper Deck introduced a new high end product called 1993 SP. The set used full bleed photography, foil, and was released in smaller quantities than their standard flagship Upper Deck set. While some hobby enthusiasts were put off by the high MSRP price for the packs, others considered it one of the top sets of the year. As the years went by, additional SP brands were added with SPx first added in 1996. In 1998 SP became SP Authentic and remained name that until its last release in 2009. SP Authentic had been produced for 2010 as well, but was not released following a lawsuit by Major League Baseball Properties against Upper Deck.
