Better known as "Lafayette", and it's not surprising - his full name was "Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette". His business cards must have been three feet long. Lafayette was a French aristocrat and soldier who decided to join the Revolutionary War, and became one of George Washington's most loyal soldiers. (I'm sure his friends just called him MJ.) In 2002, Lafayette was declared an honorary citizen of the United States, one of seven people to ever receive the tribute. Lafayette didn't even bother turning up to the ceremony. That's the French for you.
