A National Intelligence Estimate (NIEs) expresses the coordinated judgments of the Intelligence Community, and thus represents the most authoritative assessment by the Director of National Intelligence with respect to a particular national security issue. It is considered to be an “estimative” intelligence product, in that it addresses what intelligence analysts believe may be the course of future events.
