Devan Kei was a marine and served as commander of Wayland's Warhammer, the planetary combat arm of the Wayland's Wilders mercenary/privateer organization. He served with the Alliance to Restore the Republic's special operations forces, transferring from the Rebellion's standard armed forces following the destruction of Alderaan in 0 BBY. After the Battle of Endor turned the Galactic Civil War into a lengthy "mopping-up" campaign, Kei resigned his commission with the Rebels, hoping to enjoy a peaceful retirement. What he failed to plan for was that he would despise the boredom involved, as it allowed far too much free time to reflect on what he'd sacrificed for that peace, primarily the loss of his home and family to the Death Star.
