J. Farrell MacDonald (6 June 1875 – 2 August 1952) directed movies for the Oz Film Manufacturing Company during that firm's brief existence. As a character actor, MacDonald had a forty-year career in Hollywood, with more than three hundred roles to his resume. He had small parts in My Darling Clementine, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and Dark Command, and in Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life and Meet John Doe, among many other films of his era. He appeared in two dozen of John Ford's works. In the 1930s, MacDonald taught acting at the University of Southern California.
