Algie Longbottom was a wizard and the great-uncle of Neville Longbottom. Sometime between 1980 and 1988, Algie took his great-nephew Neville to Blackpool for a holiday, but pushed Neville off the pier in an attempt to force him to show some signs of magic. This was part of a series of ongoing attempts to catch him off guard and force some magic out of him. In the summer of 1995, Algie took a trip to Assyria, where he found a rare and magical Mimbulus mimbletonia, which he brought back as another present for Neville, knowing the latter's love for Herbology
