Many years ago, he was Dr. Nora Wakeman's lab-rat named Mr. Scruffles. Tired of being treated as a "pet", he exacted revenge on Nora by stealing her daughter/creation XJ-9's body. He was defeated when the body was knocked into the swimming pool, to which he "abandoned ship" to avoid the water and electrocution. He return in the episode "Legion of Evil", where he formed and lead a league of villains of the name, consisting of XJ-9's other enemies, to seek revenge on her, but were defeated again.
