Florian and his older brother Frans was both born in a middle-class family but they choosed a working path. Hos brother went into carpentry and Florian himself started as a construction worker directly after school. During these years he also engaged into the labour union. After a few years he became interested in politics and angered how Luthori Employers Association treated their workers. His brother Frans Dam recruited him to the Social Democratic Leage in Luthori. The only left party there.
