Jim McCormick won the Washington State Chess Championship six times. Not always happy during the tournaments he did not win he was widely known as 'Dirty Jim'. Age having mellowed him his nickname at tournaments changed to "Uncle Jim' He had a notorious chess rivalry with another chess master and state champion, Viktors Pupols.
