Si Huang was a seventeen year old concubine for a petty warlord in Manchuria. She got involved in a relationship with Montgomery Bryce but her sense of duty compelled her to stay despite the region's increasing tension with Japan. The warlord, a collaborator with the Japanese Imperial Army, found out about her connection to Bryce and so had her killed. Her heart was removed and cooked with some curried pork, then fed it to her lover. The event compelled Bryce to become a vegetarian.
