If we think about Wiki publishing as a business model, then the product produced is published articles that have been peer-reviewed. Wiki publishing can be open and transparent in the sense of being "Open source". The origin and source of the articles is open to public view. Open source means that the origins of a product and the steps by which it was produced are publicly accessible. The wiki publishing peer review process is transparent in the sense that the nothing is done in secret. All reviewer comments are published in wiki format where the entire world can see the basis of reviewer decisions. This creates conditions under which peer review is careful and fair and not subject to the abuses that are possible in a secret peer review process.
