The Encyclopædia Britannica which is Latin for "British Encyclopedia", published by Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., is a English-language encyclopedia. It is written and continously updated by about 100 full-time editors and over more than 4,000 contributors and five American presidents. It is regarded as one of the most scholarly of English language encyclopedias. The Encylopædia Britannica serves as the oldest British encyclopedia still being produced. It was first published between 1768 and 1771 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The encyclopedia grew in size and the second edition was 10 volumes.
