Mud ants, actually a species of rove beetle, were a eusocial species native to Nylath. Seed harvesters, they built massive tunnel colonies of hundreds of thousands of individuals within the grass root layer of the planet's massive steppes. They were by far the largest component of Nylath's biomass. While normally docile, mud ants would swarm when their colonies were disturbed, and could inflict painful bites. They targeted moist regions such as eyes for attack, as most of Nylath's native reptiles had scales their mandibles could not otherwise penetrate.
