Mac was the offensive coordinator for the Dillon Panthers. There is initially tension between him and Eric Taylor, as he assumed the head coaching position would be his before Eric was hired. However a friendship does grow between the two. At one point Mac has a heart attack, and Wade Aikmen becomes the interim assistant coach. Mac also gets in trouble after making some racist comments. During the tension with the black members of the Panthers football team and Mac, the black players quit playing. However, all is forgiven after Mac saves Smash Williams from getting arrested by the opposing teams' police officers.
