Janice Byers is a Commander and Navy Doctor who treated Commander Michael Dornan. It was soon revealed that Dornan's death which Donald Mallard and his NCIS colleagues originally thought was murder was actually an accident. Byers later expressed regret over what had happened, realizing that she and her team should have given Dornan a new aorta instead of repairing the original one which had eventually collapsed. Although Byers was not prosecuted or arrested given that the death was an accident, it's likely that her military and medical career ended in disgrace as a result of her actions.
