Hinty, an infant girl, was the daughter of Bedek (her father) and of Myrla (her mother). Hinty was also the sister of Mew (a three year old girl) and of Snell (a young boy). Finally, Hinty was the adoptive sister (aka 'Cousin Three') of the adopted five or six year old boy, Harllo. Hinty's birth had been a hard one for her mother and Myrla had not recovered her full strength afterwards, tiring easily and suffering from sick headaches. Hinty and her indigent family lived in The Trench, a neighborhood slum in the Gadrobi district of Darujhistan, Genabackis.
