KO-19 is a very cold planet, with ice caps extending almost a quarter down its surface from either pole, and its most temperate region is similar in climate to Russia or Canada on Earth. The Karovan colonists have discovered signs of an ancient civilization which lived in a warmer climate, but they are now extinct thanks to whatever froze the planet.
