The Atlantic Paranormal Society (aka TAPS) is an organization based in Warwick, Rhode Island, USA that investigates paranormal activity. It was founded in 1990 by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. In 2004 the organization itself became the subject of a weekly reality television series for the Sci-Fi Channel titled Ghost Hunters. Hawes began TAPS in 1990; originally it was called Rhode Island Paranormal Society. According to former TAPS member Donna LaCroix, the team initially began meeting "every Sunday in a coffee shop." After RIPS began investigating cases throughout the New England area, RIPS was renamed "The Atlantic Paranormal Society". Wilson joined the effort about two years later.
