Super Typhoon/Hurricane Mabel was the seventeenth depression of the typhoon season, the twelfth typhoon, and the second super typhoon. Mabel was a powerful cyclone that first formed near Hawaii, as it went westward, remaining as a severe tropical storm before entering the warm waters of the West Pacific, where explosive intensification took place, going to a maximum wind speed of 200mph and a minimum pressure of 870 mbar, barely beating Patricia's record and tying Typhoon Tip for strongest cyclone recorded.
