When Jack returned from London in October 1972, his family wondered where he got all of his money from. It was later revealed that whilst away from Beckindale he had written a book called The Field of Tares and it had been a best-seller, leaving him both rich and a little famous. Jack was offered a substantial amount to turn the book into a film. The back cover features a picture of Jack. In 2014, Lawrence White bought and read the book.
