Spinward was a direction in galactic navigation, pointing in the direction that a galaxy was turning, or its spin. In the Milky Way Galaxy, the core Federation worlds of the mid-22nd century lay spinward of the Orion Colonies. The Spinward Horn region of space was named for this direction (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge).
