Richards was born in Evanston, Illinois and received his BFA in Ceramics and Glass from the University of Minnesota in 1978 and his MFA in Ceramics from the University of Washington in 1981. His work can also be seen in the action thriller Narrow Margin (1990) and was published in several magazines and exhibitions. Richards received several honorable mentions and awards for his work.
