Philip Green was a suspect in "The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax". He was a former suitor of Lady Frances', who was rejected because of his course manners. After making a fortune in South Africa he returned to Europe to resume pursuing Lady Frances around the continent in an attempt to woo her. He managed to track her to a hotel in Lausanne, where he attempted to talk to her. However, his wild, "savage" appearance, alarming behaviour, and quick temper frightened her, and she left quickly to get away from him, leaving no forwarding information. When Sherlock Holmes sent Dr Watson to investigate Lady Frances' disappearance, Green's threatening behavior made him the principal suspect.
