George Steptoe Washington (1774-January 10, 1809), the fourth child of Colonel Samuel and Anne Steptoe Washington, was a nephew of George Washington. He was born in born at Harewood, the Washington plantation, in Berkeley County, West Virginia and, after having completed his education, married Lucy Payne of Philadelphia, sister of Dolley Madison, in 1796. He was a Captain of the Eighth Virginia Infantry from 1799 to 1800. After his death in 1809 he was buried at the St. Paul's Churchyard, though a marker wasn't placed there until October 5, 1956.
