Magnificus is a character who appears in the comic book story "The Haunted Castle" (which is not to be confused with the Johan And Peewit episode of the same name). He is a sorcerer who protects the Black Rose inside the Castle of Evil Spirits, making sure that whoever takes it must have a pure heart. He first appears unto Smurfette, Hefty, and Grouchy claiming to be a knight who was under a curse by Magnificus and gives the three Smurfs weapons that they can use against the monsters that patrol the castle. In the end, he reveals his true identity and, seeing that the Smurfs have pure hearts, allows them to take the Black Rose with them to the Smurf Village to cure Papa Smurf.
