The heart of the Maya civilization, Guatemala has a long deep history, older than 2000 years, a history that has put a mark on the country's culture, and even cooking traditions. The variety of dishes found in the cuisine has been influenced by other cuisines from all over the world. Because of its geographical position, the Guatemala cuisine has been influenced along the course of time by the Mexican cuisine, the North American one, and even European influences, which added to the mixture of dishes in this cuisine.
