Taan Ric is one of the more pragmatic sentients you'll likely meet, while not joining his sister in her disgust of Imperials he maintains a healthy skepticism for them tempered with the respect of numerous clashes with them in the depths of space. Having served with the Rebellion during the war he now serves loyally with New Republic Navy along with his long time partner Rasia Zephere. His is a very balanced and measured approach to Rasia's often hot headed and volitle way of going about things. Two more diametircally opposed people you would be hard pressed to find which probaly why they ended up together.
