While escaping the Citadel, warden Osi Sobeck unleashed a pack of Anooba and several STAPs to hunt down the escaped prisoners and the rescue team. When the Anooba and STAP's arrived, the Republic forces were able to fend them off but not before losing two of Piell's men and Piell himself being injured by an Anooba. Before dying he was able to give his half of the Nexus Route information to Ahsoka Tano who later brought his corpse back to the group. From there, a brief funeral was held where the survivors of the team including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Rex, Fives, Cody, Wilhuff Tarkin, R2-D2, one of Piell's naval officers, and one of his clone troopers. After Obi-Wan gave a eulogy, he and Anakin used to the Force to lay Piell's corpse in one of the lava streams.
