She was a passenger aboard Oceanic Flight 815 who did not survive the crash. When the plane split apart, her seat was thrown from the plane and into a spring of water deep in the island. Her body was eventually discovered by Kate and Sawyer while they were swimming, and later by Paulo when he was swimming to find the missing script bag.
