The 2006 Pennsylvania 500 was a Nextel Cup Series event held at Pocono Raceway on July 23, 2006. Denny Hamlin's second and final victory on the year was convincing, leading 151 of 200 laps in route to a 1.5-second victory on Kurt Busch. In the points, Jimmie Johnson (6th) maintained a 97-point margin on Matt Kenseth (14th). Meanwhile, in the Race to the Chase, Dale Earnhardt, Jr fell out with a crash as Tony Stewart made it back to 10th. Stewart was still in hot water, though. Stewart, feeling roughed up by Clint Bowyer intentionally drove Bowyer into the wall early, collecting Carl Edwards in the crash. Stewart was penalized a lap for rough driving, but recovered to 7th.
