The femtometer (fm) is a unit of length in the International System of Units, defined as 10−15 meter using the SI prefix system. The unit, also shortly named fermi, was traditionally used for measuring the dimensions of atomic nuclei. The term femtometer, not fermi, is the proper name in the SI.
