The 1950 Southern 500 was a Grand National (now Sprint Cup) event held at Darlington Speedway on September 4, 1950. It was the inagural event at the track. Johnny Mantz stole the show, leading 351 of the 400 laps in route to a nine-lap victory on Fireball Roberts. Eventual season champ Bill Rexford finished 4th. Stats
