Joe is a roadworker at a site in London. When he uses a jackhammer, the giant burrowing insects destroy the ground that he is standing on, and the road collapses, dropping only him underground. While down there, he hears creature noises from up ahead in a tunnel. The creatures then attack and kill him. His remains are seen by Connor Temple while he is in the nest of the creatures of a shopping centre that was being refurbished. (Episode 5.1)
