Thomas "Tom" Kennedy (d. 1917) led the Confederate underground in Covington, Kentucky, during the Great War. Before the Great War, Cincinnatus worked as a delivery man for Kennedy. During the war, Kennedy drew Cincinnatus into the Confederate Underground. Lieutenant Straubing, Cincinnatus' U.S. Army employer, shot Kennedy dead on Cincinnatus' door step. Following his death, Luther Bliss of the Kentucky State Police, the Socialist Underground and the Confederate Underground all were looking for who shot Kennedy. In the end, during a confrontation between Cincinnatus and Bliss, Straubing revealed, quite nonchalantly, that he had shot Kennedy because he was upsetting Cincinnatus, which made Cincinnatus less effective at his job.
