Captain Steinbach earned fame during the war when his flight, part of the 105th Air Transport Squadron, volunteered to evacuate the German Government from Bonn as Russian units were surrounding the city. Since then, the veteran unit has earned a reputation for courage and tenacity under fire. Their heavily armored EC-660 Whirlwind helicopters withstood tremendous amounts of enemy fire - including several Surface-to-Air missiles - and still completed their assigned missions.
