The 1st Flying Horse Man was the in the lead of the eight-man team who represented The Flying Horse for a Christmas Day tug-of-war between that establishment and the Rovers Return Inn in December 1967. Organiser Albert Tatlock had tried to secure the services of two banned rugby league players to supplement the rather puny Rovers team but failed and the beefier rival team easily won.
