Subofficer Halek was a Cardassian officer aboard the Swift Striker in 2370. He often gave Berat a hard time, twice making him strip down and reassemble an airlock just to torment him. The second time, Halek ordered Berat to skip the pressure check despite regulations. When Berat tried to state regulations, Halek accused him of disobeying a direct order. Berat then attacked and killed Halek. Eventually, Berat's rank was restored - retroactively - thus making Halek's life forfeit the second he laid a hand on Glinn Berat. (DS9 novel: Betrayal)
