Benny was a heavy in Phil Jennings's employ. When Phil began an association with Deirdre Barlow and decided to scare Ken Barlow into staying away from his estranged wife, he followed Ken from Weatherfield Comprehensive to a garage forecourt in a car driven by Benny. While looking at a car with an interest to buy, Ken was approached and threatened by Phil, with Benny maintaining an ominous presence throughout the conversation. After Benny and Phil drove off, Ken noted the car's licence plate number so that he could the incident to the police, however they did not pursue the matter.
