The Yugure Chochin, also known as the Twilight Lanterns, were thin paper lanterns that housed a small fire spirits. The lanterns responded to verbal commands such as brighter or dimmer, and could even focus it's light into wider or narrower beams. The lanters never needed fuel, but in exchange the spirits would have to be appeased by a shugenja. If unhappy a spirit could leave a lantern, leaving it useless. The lanterns were particularily difficult to create, requiring a shugenja to lure a fire spirit into the lantern.
