The McLaren MP4-12C was unveiled on September 8th, 2009 and the production started in 2011. The car utilizes techniques which are also used in the Formula 1, such as an 80 kg light carbon monoque, called "MonoCell". It features a 3.8 L V8 engine. Its predecessor is the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Frank Stephenson designed this car. Its production was discontinued in 2014 and replaced by its successor, the McLaren 650S. A Spider was produced the same time this car was in production until discontinuation of the MP4-12C.
