The Earl of St. Andrews is the elder son of the Duke and Duchess of Kent. Lord Downpatrick is heir, after his father, to the Dukedom of Kent. For this reason, enjoys the courtesy title Lord Downpatrick. In 2003, following the example of his grandmother, the Duchess of Kent, and uncle, Lord Nicholas Windsor, he became a member of the Roman Catholic Church and therefore was struck from the line of succession to the British Throne.
