Norm Carbines was elected to Parliament in August 3263. A year later, he was elected Deputy Leader of the Liberals. In 3269, he was easily reelected Deputy Leader. Following the resignation of Guillaume d'Estaing, Carbines was named interim leader over Louise Volt, the female Deputy Leader. As Party Leader, he combined the Deputy Leadership positions. He felt that the party no longer needed a representative from both genders. Carbines argued that the concept was outdated.
