Battlefire was a weapon in the Emelanese Universe -- a clear, jelly-like consistence. It burned the things it got in contact with. Battlefire was normally used like catapult stones; animal skin globes were filled with the dreadfully smelling liquid. It could cause considerable damage to ships. Briar Moss once witnessed three ships coming back into the harbor of Hajra after they had escaped a pirate attack in which the ships had been attacked with battlefire. One ship sunk in the harbor, the other two were full of dead and wounded.
