Jean-Luc Picard, the newly assigned captain of the new USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), arrives on the ship by shuttlecraft. He is piped aboard by Lieutenant Commander Data, an android with opalescent golden skin, and walks onto the bridge, where he records his first captain's log. In his office he reviews a personal message from Admiral Hidalgo, who expresses confidence in him and his crew.
