The block was once in a cluster of 3, but has stood alone since nearby Vernon House was demolished in 2004; its other neighbour Drake House was demolished in 2002. The block had been earmarked for demolition since 2009, however, following Labours' local election victory in May 2011 it won a short reprieve along with the other 6 remaining tower blocks on Orchard Park Estate, when Hull City Council decided not to demolish all the remaining tower blocks on the estate.
